The Selfie Experience in Phuket is a fun, air-conditioned photo museum with over 40 themed rooms: Candyland, neon tunnels, giant food, space rockets, fairytale setups, an oversized claw machine, and yes—a life-size Barbie box.

The official site says it’s the biggest selfie museum in Thailand, and maybe even in all of Asia. It’s fully air-conditioned and open daily from 10 AM to 7 PM, right in Phuket Town.

Getting There & First Impressions

We took a Grab from our hotel and got dropped off right at the entrance. You can also park your car or scooter directly on site.

A friendly young guy welcomed us, showed us how everything works, and gave us our own little tripod with a ring light. You carry it with you, plug it in at each corner, and pop your phone in. It’s all set up for you—no tech stress.

There are lockers near the entrance too, which was great. We tossed in our water bottles, shoes, and a few snacks and headed in.

The Rooms – What We Loved

We started upstairs and right away: wow, this is fun.

Every room has a theme. Some are cute, some are hilarious, some are just totally weird. You can sit on clouds, shop in a fake supermarket, pose with giant ice cream, jump into a ball pit, and ride a tuk-tuk indoors.

Our favorites:

• Supermarket set – We had a blast pretending to shop. Lila turned into a mini game-show contestant.
• Donut World – Huge, soft donuts everywhere.
• Barbie box – I dressed up with Lila and we took mother-daughter pics. Loved it!
• Music stage – The girls rocked out like little superstars.
• Ball pit – All four of us jumped in at the end. Silly photos guaranteed.

The Not-So-Perfect Bits:

• The mirror room looked a bit scratched and worn when we visited. The photos still came out cool, but up close, you could see the wear and tear.
• A few props were broken or messy because… well, not everyone treats public spaces with respect.

But overall, the space was colorful, imaginative, and really fun. You could tell that a lot of thought went into creating each room.

Is It Family-Friendly?

It really depends on your kids. Ruby (3) was super excited at first, but lost interest about halfway through. At some point, we just let her play and stopped asking for more photos.

Lila (7) was thrilled. She wanted a photo in every single room. She kept coming up with ideas and dragging us along.

The space is cool, clean, and easy to walk through. There’s music playing and lots to explore. It’s not too big, so they don’t get exhausted walking. And the staff? Super kind. At the end, they let the girls drive little electric cars around. Even when Ruby bumped into walls five times in a row, the staff smiled and helped her turn around. It’s those little things that make families feel welcome.

The only downside? Other visitors. One family left props all over and let their kid throw stuff. We had to clean up before we could even start in some rooms. Not great. But hey, that happens everywhere, right?

How Long to Stay?

We spent about 45 minutes, and that felt just right. With older kids or a group of friends, you could easily stay longer—maybe 1 to 1.5 hours.

Here’s how I’d break it down:

• Young kids (under 5): 30–45 minutes max
• Elementary-age kids: 45–60 minutes
• Teens or adults who love photos: Up to 90 minutes
• Photo pros/content creators: All day if you let them

Don’t expect toddlers to pose for an hour. At some point, you’ll want to let them just play and stop trying to force the perfect shot. That’s what we did with Ruby.

Final Tips Before You Go

Here’s what I recommend:

• Wear light, solid-colored clothes – they look great in photos and won’t clash with the backgrounds.
• Bring snacks and water, especially with little ones. There’s no café inside.
• Use the lockers – they’re free and super convenient.
• Don’t worry about bringing a tripod – they give you one!
• Go early in the day – fewer people, cooler inside, and less waiting around.
• Bring a backup battery pack – taking 300 photos eats your phone charge fast.
• Don’t stress if the kids don’t want to pose – just let them be silly. The best shots are usually the unplanned ones.

The Selfie Experience is right in Phuket Town, so it’s easy to turn your visit into a half-day adventure.

You could…

• Grab lunch in Old Town – It’s just a short ride away and full of colorful shophouses, cute cafés, and street art. My girls love the rainbow stairs near Soi Rommanee.
• Pop over to Central Mall – If you need AC, food, or a break, Central Festival (or Central Floresta) is less than 10 minutes away by Grab. There’s a kids’ play zone, a big food court, and great coffee.
• End the day at Chillva Market – If you’re going in the late afternoon, Chillva Night Market isn’t far. It’s great for snacks, smoothies, and picking up little souvenirs. (Opens around 5 PM.)
• DON’T visit the Upside Down House, that’s a 15-minute ride away. It’s low quality and feels like a scam. Also, it’s nearly double the price of the Selfie Experience Phuket.
