Are There Good International Kindergartens on Koh Phangan?
Yes. Since I arrived in 2019, the choice has exploded. Today you can find Montessori-style schools, play-based daycares, and small, community-focused kindergartens across the island.
Update 2026: Some kindergartens on Koh Phangan had to shift to a more homogeneous student population. This has led to challenges with language barriers and social integration. I recommend visiting in person and speaking with other parents before enrolling.
I’ve put together a full guide to international kindergartens and childcare options in Koh Phangan for children aged 8 months to 7 years. Most of the information comes directly from my interviews with the schools.

FAQ: International Kindergartens in Koh Phangan
How much does an international kindergarten in Koh Phangan cost?
It depends a lot. Some places offer daily rates, while others require term bookings. In this guide, I list fees whenever schools shared them. The average price is between 10,000 and 35,000 THB/month (275 – 980 USD).
What age can kids start kindergarten on Koh Phangan?
Some childcare options start around 8 months (more like supervised play/daycare). Many “kindergarten-style” programs are strongest from 2–5 or 3–5, depending on the school.
Do kids need to speak English to join?
Not always. Many schools support non-native English speakers, but it matters who the other kids are and what languages they actually use during play. That’s why I always recommend a visit and a trial day if possible.
What should I ask on a school tour?
Ask about: class size, teacher-to-child ratio, languages spoken during play, nap routine, food, trial days, and how they handle new kids who don’t speak the group’s main language yet.
