Is the Hyatt Regency Koh Samui Good for Families?
Absolutely. Hyatt Regency Koh Samui is one of the best family-friendly resorts on the island. It has a fun kids’ club, a family pool, and large rooms. We’ve stayed here several times and always felt genuinely welcomed as a family.
Why We Love Staying Here
We are a family of four with two young daughters, living in Koh Phangan and Samui on and off since 2019.
Today, I want to share my thoughts on one of my favorite hotels in Southern Thailand: the Hyatt Regency Samui.

First Impressions – Arrival and Check-in
When you arrive at the Hyatt Samui, you can park your car or scooter right on the hotel grounds, with a friendly parking attendant ready to help. If you’re arriving by taxi (we always book the shuttle service directly through Hyatt for 500 THB (about 14 USD), it stops right in front of the large, impressive lobby. You don’t have to touch your luggage—it’s immediately taken care of by the staff and ready to be brought to your room.
There are two check-in and check-out counters, each with two staff members. Check-in is usually smooth and quick. You’ll get a map of the hotel grounds and a delicious welcome drink.
My two daughters are always entertained during the check-in process. They explore the lobby and hop across the stepping stones in the water feature at the end of the lobby.

Family Rooms and Family Villas at Hyatt Regency Koh Samui
We like to mix things up with the room types we book. So far, we’ve tried the King Room with Garden View, King Room with Ocean View, and Family King Room with Partial Ocean View. Our favorite is the Family King Room. The view isn’t the best, but it’s on the ground floor with direct access to a cute little playground. It’s also super close to the main restaurant and the Kids Club—what more could you ask for as a family?
As expected from a hotel in this category, the rooms are always spotless, with daily housekeeping. We found the layout practical for families, with enough space for our bags while still having room to move around.
Depending on your neighbors, it can get a bit noisy in the evenings and at night, as the building isn’t perfectly soundproof (we’ve noticed the same in other Hyatts, like the one in Phuket). When booking one of the private pool villas, you won’t have this problem.

Family Tip: In our family, everyone sleeps better when we sleep separately. So, we parents take the bed, and the kids sleep on the sofa. The sofa in every room type is a large L-shaped one, so two kids can comfortably sleep on it.
BUT for some reason, the Hyatt doesn’t allow both kids to sleep on the sofa and only makes up one side for one child. They expect the other child, if over 2 years old, to sleep in the parents’ bed (under 2, you can request a free baby crib).
So, I always request extra bedding and a pillow to make up the other side of the sofa myself.

Dining – Family-Friendly Food and Vegetarian Options
Breakfast: Served at Yangna Cuisine with both Asian and Western dishes. We love the fresh fruit, the omelet station, and the small kids section. The staff brings coffee and tea to your table, and the service is always kind and quick.
Unfortunately, there’s no matcha latte, even though we’ve been requesting it for over a year. It doesn’t seem like it should be too hard to add to the menu!
Lunch: We also enjoy lunch at Yangna Cuisine by the pool. The menu has a good selection for vegetarians, with our favorite being the classic margarita pizza. I also like classic Thai dishes, which can be prepared in vegetarian versions for us.
Dinner: The Hyatt recommends having dinner at the beachfront restaurant SESUN. It’s a chic and stylish spot, but the menu is all about meat, fish, and grilled seafood. Vegetarians are completely left out, so we’ve never dined there.
However, one highlight is the spectacular fire show that takes place right in front of the restaurant around 8 PM on good weather nights. It’s entirely free; donations are appreciated. It’s always an amazing experience for our girls and us, no matter how many times we’ve seen it!
What Families Love Most – Pools, Beach & Activities
Family Pool: The main pool is the hub for families, with a fenced shallow area for the little ones that features a water slide. To be honest, we’re not big fans of the kids’ area because my 7-year-old daughter finds the pool too shallow for the slide, making it uncomfortable when landing in the water. But my 4-year-old had fun! So, I think it depends on the size and weight of the child.
The larger family pool is amazing! It has comfortable steps for easy entry, a deep middle area, and a shallow section near the sea where you can lie down and enjoy the breathtaking sea view. There are plenty of lounge chairs and shaded areas, making it easy for us to relax while keeping an eye on the kids.
Lagoon Pool: These adults-only pools are located below the family pool, closer to the sea. They offer a peaceful vibe with comfy seating areas built inside the water. It’s a great spot to unwind while the kids are busy at the Kids’ Club.
Beach Access: Direct access to Chaweng Beach makes it effortless to switch between pool and beach time. There are loungers set up on the grassy area of the hotel, offering a cozy spot to gaze out at the sea. However, it’s not recommended to swim in the water here, as it’s very rocky and not really a swimming beach.
But there’s a floating pier that gently sways with the waves. It’s always fun for us and our kids to walk out onto the sea from there!
Camp Hyatt: What Kids Actually Do There
Camp Hyatt at the Hyatt Regency Koh Samui is one of the best kids’ clubs I’ve seen at any hotel in Southeast Asia. And I’ve seen a lot. The indoor play area is bright and mostly made of wood, which gives it a warm, non-plasticky feel. There are always at least two nannies on duty, and they are genuinely lovely with kids.
Activities rotate daily and include:
- Arts and crafts (our girls have made painted shells, bracelets, and batik-style fabric prints)
- Beach games and scavenger hunts
- Movie afternoons
- Cooking demos and Thai cultural activities
- Role play using the club’s shop, vet, and kitchen setups
Kids aged 4 and up can drop in independently. The club is open daily from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and it’s complimentary for hotel guests. Free water is always available, so there’s no need to pack snacks.

Adult Entertainment
My husband and I love the gym! It has a good selection of modern equipment, and everything is clean and well-maintained. The changing rooms and restrooms next to the gym are also excellent!
You can borrow badminton equipment and play on the grass court by the beach. There are also daily guided fitness classes, like yoga and traditional Muay Thai boxing.
We haven’t tried the spa ourselves yet, but we’ve heard great things about it. The Veriō Spa offers various spa treatments, like massages, facials, and body scrubs, along with holistic programs focused on detox, mindfulness, and energy enhancement. It’s open daily from 10 AM to 8 PM.
Overall Family Experience at Hyatt Regency Samui with Kids
We always feel very welcome at the Hyatt Regency Koh Samui. The staff is incredibly helpful and attentive. For example, one time I had an issue with my scooter in the parking lot, and within minutes, five staff members were trying to get it started. I was so overwhelmed by their kindness!
It’s also wonderful that the staff remembers us and sometimes even knows our names. It shows how attentive they are and that every guest truly matters to them.
💡 My personal family highlight: At the end of each stay, our two girls receive a small stuffed turtle as a gift. It’s such a lovely keepsake from our vacation!

Hyatt Regency Koh Samui Prices and Best Time to Book
We paid between $150 (€140) and $370 (€345) per night for our room, including breakfast and taxes. The price varies depending on the season and whether there are holidays. While the price can be on the higher side at times, the facilities and service make it worth it.
The lowest rates usually appear just before or after peak season.

Tips for Families Visiting Hyatt Regency Koh Samui
- Check bank holidays: Make sure to check not only Thai holidays but also Israeli ones, as that’s the major nationality currently visiting Koh Samui and Koh Phangan. Booking outside these holidays increases your chances of better rates and a more peaceful stay.
- Book additional beds and cribs in advance: This way, you can ensure everything is set up for you and your kids as soon as you check in.

What to Be Careful of in Koh Samui as a Family
This comes up a lot, and it’s worth addressing honestly. Koh Samui is genuinely family-friendly, but a few things are worth keeping in mind.
The beach at Hyatt Regency is rocky and not suitable for swimming. Don’t let the beautiful view fool you. A 3-minute taxi ride north gets you to Choeng Mon Beach, and 5 minutes south brings you to the calmer northern end of Chaweng Beach. Neither is a dealbreaker.
Traffic on the ring road can be chaotic, especially on scooters. With young kids, we always use a taxi or the hotel shuttle rather than a rented scooter for longer trips.
Mosquitoes are present year-round, not just in the wet season. Pack a good repellent and use it at sunset. We’ve lived in Thailand since 2019 and it’s just part of daily life here.
Finally, check both Thai and Israeli public holidays before booking. A large share of Koh Samui visitors are Israeli travelers, and during their holidays the island gets noticeably busier and pricier.
Key Takeaways
- Family rating: 9/10 from a repeat-stay local family.
- Camp Hyatt kids’ club: free, daily, ages 4 and up.
- Room prices: $150 to $370 per night including breakfast.
- Airport distance: 8 minutes. Shuttle: 500 THB.
- Beach is rocky. Nearest swim beach: 3 minutes by taxi.
- Book outside Thai and Israeli holidays for lower rates.
- Kids under 12 stay free sharing parents’ room.
- Vegetarian dinner options at SESUN are almost nonexistent.
Final Verdict – Our Hyatt Regency Koh Samui Review 2026
Hyatt Regency Koh Samui gets a solid 9/10 from our family. It’s the perfect blend of luxury and family-friendliness, offering activities for both parents and kids.
The only downsides are the lack of matcha, SESUN not being vegetarian-friendly, and the fact that the hotel can’t prepare two kids’ beds on the large sofa. But if these things were improved, the Hyatt Samui would definitely earn a 10 from us!

Hi, great blog, I really enjoy it, thank you!
I do have a question though; you said you paid 150 up to 370€ per room per day. That is ok with us. But on booking.com, when trying to book, they give me a price of more than 983€ per room per night, I’m at Genious level 2. Did you book directly through the hotel maybe to get a price like that? Or did you book on booking? Any advise would be much appreciated. We are going to Samui from 28th of June to 5th of July, which I believe is not high season, then we change hotels for a week. Looking forward to your new blog 🥰😍😃 best regards, Melita 😃
Hi Melita,
Thank you so much for your kind words! I’m so happy you’re enjoying the blog. 😊
I just checked Booking.com for the dates you mentioned, and it shows a total of 1,981 Euros for the stay, which works out to 283 Euros per night. I’m Genius Level 3, but it doesn’t seem like a Genius discount is applied to this rate either.
I’ve actually always booked through Booking.com and not directly with the hotel.
Maybe try again with incognito mode? 🙂 Kindly, Lulu
Hi Lulu,
Thank you for your informative posts and really nice blog. We are a family of three, have visited south east Asia often, but always in the dry season. We are thinking of spending some time in Koh Samui at the end of September/beginning of October this year and thought maybe you could help me out with your insights.
Does it usually rain a lot in that period?
Am a bit worried of dengue outbreaks, are there loads of mosquitoes during the wet season?
Best wishes
Anna
Hi Anna,
Thanks so much for your kind words!
End of September to early October is actually a great time to visit Koh Samui. The rainy season isn’t in full swing yet, and the heaviest rains usually come between November and mid-December. My parents always visit during the first half of October, and we’ve had fantastic weather so far (with some rain, but not too much). You should be just fine!
As for dengue fever, I completely understand your concern. In my 5.5 years of living in Thailand, I’ve only had it once, and honestly, it wasn’t bad at all. I’ve also noticed that outbreaks seem to occur year-round rather than being confined to specific months (based on my personal observations of dengue cases among friends). Mosquito spray is your best friend, especially during “mosquito happy hour” at sunset. Sitting near fans or in breezy spots helps keep them away too. But as seasoned travelers to Southeast Asia, it sounds like you already know the tricks. 😉
I hope you have a wonderful time in Samui! If you have any other questions, feel free to ask. Lulu
Hi, thanks for your review. Could you please confirm about the beach. Is there no swimming or sand play? Are they beaches near the hotel which you can visit for these things?
Thanks
Hi Justine, yes, I confirm. This beach is not really swimmable. But only a 3 minute taxi ride north is beautiful Choeng Mon Beach, or 5 mins south you’ll reach northern Chaweng beach (the best and calmest part of Chaweng beach). For us, it never was a dealbreaker. You can still sit on the beach and enjoy it. 🙂 Hope this helps. Lulu
